Introduction

           First let’s talk about what they are and how you get them. Stretch marks are known medically as striae or striae gravidarum. They occur when the middle layer or dermis of the skin becomes overstretched to the point of tearing.

            Stretch marks are actually tiny tears in the supporting layers of tissue under your skin as it's pulled tight to the limit during pregnancy.            This suggests lavender oil may help in the healing of stretch marks, but it should be noted that the study was carried out on rats.

More research on humans is needed.

          Calendula oil comes from the Pot marigold plant's flower, and is considered by many to be a miracle ingredient in skincare.

            In one study, 100 pregnant women were divided into two groups. One group was given a topical cream containing gotu kola while the other was given a placebo cream. Within the former group, only 14 women developed stretch marks as opposed to 22 women in the latter group.

            Gotu kola is used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda to treat a wide range of skin concerns. According to 2013 publication, Centella asiatica in cosmetology compounds in gotu kola help increase collagen production and improve skin’s tensile strength.

             In an older study from 1991 on 100 women who were pregnant, 50 women were given a topical cream containing gotu kola while the other 50 women were given a placebo cream.

             Of the 80 women who completed the study, just 14 women of the gotu kola group developed stretch marks compared to the 22 women in the placebo group.
